A good first hunt has seven parts.
Confirm the place. Pack light. Use a stable setup. Swing low and slow. Cross-check the signal. Recover with care. Close the ground.

Choose ground you can confirm
Find the land manager. Read the current rule. If the wording is unclear, ask before you visit.

Pack the small essentials
Bring your detector, charged batteries, a pinpointer, recovery tool, pouch, gloves, water, and any permit.

Start with a stable mode
Use the basic coin or park mode. Set sensitivity high enough to hear targets, but low enough to stay quiet.

Keep the coil low and level
Move slowly. Overlap each pass. Do not lift the coil at the end of your swing.

Question the signal
Sweep over it from two directions. A number can help, but a smooth repeatable sound matters more.

Recover carefully
Use the smallest opening that works. Check the loose soil, then the hole. Stop if you meet roots, utilities, or anything unsafe.

Close the ground
Put the soil and plug back, press gently, collect your trash, and leave the place hard to spot.

Imagine you are painting the ground. Each pass should cover part of the last pass. Keep the coil close without hitting the soil.
Your first signal
Use the number as a clue, not a verdict.
Target ID can move because of depth, angle, trash, wet soil, and nearby metal. Turn 90 degrees and sweep again. A clean signal that repeats is easier to learn from than one perfect number.
